Life Getting “Lifey”? Here’s How to Reset and Stay Motivated

"The time to relax is when you don't have time for it." — Sydney J. Harris

Welcome to this week’s Peak Performance Mondays!

We’ve all been there—especially now, during audition season. Whether you’re gearing up for an important performance or just trying to stay on top of everything, sometimes life gets... lifey. That was the exact word we used in Audition Accelerator Office Hours this week, as many of my clients shared the struggles of staying focused while balancing auditions, life responsibilities, and everything in between.

The key? Knowing when—and how—to hit the reset button. Here’s how you can do it.

🧠 Quick Tips for a Brain Reset:

  1. Get Outside for a 20-Minute Walk
Science backs this one up! A short walk in nature can do wonders for clearing mental fog. Several clients in Audition Accelerator have made this a daily habit. One even shared that taking a walk right before tackling a tough excerpt helped them focus better and feel less overwhelmed.

  2. Hop on Your Bike (or Peloton) for 30 Minutes
There’s something about getting your body moving that can snap you out of a mental slump. Whether it’s a quick ride on the Peloton or another form of exercise, the boost of endorphins will help you feel refreshed. One member mentioned how a 30-minute ride resets their mood and re-energizes their practice sessions afterward.

  3. Meditation for 10 Minutes
Meditation doesn’t have to be a big production. Taking 10 minutes to slow your mind can have a huge impact. I personally love using a quick meditation app right before bed to unwind, and it helps me wake up feeling focused and motivated the next day. Honestly, I often fall asleep before the meditation is even over and wake up with my phone lying on the bedside table—that’s how much of a reset meditation can be!

  4. Dive Into a Good Fiction Book
Sometimes the best way to reset is by diving into another world for a while. Give yourself permission to step away from the practice room and lose yourself in a book for an hour. One of our Accelerator members found that this little escape helped them come back to their work with fresh eyes and new energy.

  5. Acknowledge the ‘Lifey’ Moments
Let’s be real—sometimes life is going to throw you a curveball. Instead of fighting it, allow yourself to pause. Take a moment to acknowledge the chaos, breathe through it, and then decide how you’re going to come back even stronger.

📣 By the way, none of these suggestions are rocket science. I bet you’ve heard them all before. But here’s the truth—the magic is in actually doing them.

So, my challenge to you is this:

What would it feel like to really try some of these techniques this week, especially if you’re feeling overwhelmed? Take that walk, hop on the bike, or dive into a good book. You might be surprised at how much of a difference a small reset can make.

Action Items:

  • Pick One Reset Tool: Take a moment to choose one of the strategies above that resonates most with you. Whether it's going for a walk, hopping on the bike, or reading for an hour, implement it into your routine this week.

  • Set a Reminder: When life gets busy, we tend to forget self-care. Set a reminder on your phone to do your reset activity at least three times this week.

  • Share Your Experience: If you try one of these reset methods, hit reply and share your results! Let me know what worked, what you discovered, and how it helped you stay motivated.

💡 The Takeaway

If you’re gearing up for an audition and feeling the weight of it all, take this as a reminder to reset, recharge, and stay focused. Sometimes, a simple break is all it takes to come back stronger.

You’ve got this!
