Don't Let Your Inbox Kill Your Superhero Mojo

You wake up in the morning, ready to conquer your practice session with boundless energy and excitement. But as soon as you check your inbox, your momentum comes to a screeching halt. Before you know it, you're drowning in requests from others, and your mojo is gone.

But fear not, musicians! Here are some tips to help you protect your morning buzz and take control of your practice day:

1.   Delay the Inbox Check

As tempting as it may be to check your inbox first thing in the morning, hold off for a bit. Take some time to stretch, have breakfast, or do whatever gets you going in the morning. Your inbox can wait a few more minutes.

2. Set Boundaries

Your time is precious, so don't let others dictate how you spend it. Set boundaries and stick to them. This may mean checking email only at certain times of the day or blocking off specific hours for meetings. Whatever it is, make sure you're protecting your time.

3.   Prioritize Your Tasks

Before diving into work, prioritize your tasks for the day. What do you want to accomplish in the practice room today? Figure out what's most important and tackle those tasks first. This will help you stay focused and avoid getting sidetracked by other people's requests.

4.   Take Breaks

Even superheroes need to take breaks to recharge. Take a few minutes throughout the day to do something that energizes you, whether it's taking the dog for a walk, going for a run, or just checking in with your practice buddy. This will help you maintain your momentum and prevent burnout.

5.   Learn to Say "No"

Saying "no" can be tough, but sometimes it's necessary to protect your time and energy. If someone asks you to do something that you know will drain you or take up too much time, it's okay to decline. That includes saying no to crappy gigs, taking students who are not a good fit, or entertaining out-of-scope requests from clients or students.

Remember––your number one resource is your enthusiasm! Protect it at all costs.

So, there you have it. Protecting your morning buzz is crucial to having a productive and fulfilling practice day. By delaying the inbox check, setting boundaries, prioritizing tasks, taking breaks, and learning to say "no," you can ensure that you're in control of your day. So don't let your inbox or other people's requests kill your mojo.

Protect your morning buzz and take on the day like the superhero you are!
